From November 28th to December 1st, the 18th China Conference on Ecology, hosted by the Ecological Society of China and organized by Yunnan University, was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province.The theme of the conference is "Inheritance and Innovation: New Mission of Ecological Science". Academician Yu Guirui, Eun-Shik Kim, Chairman of the International Ecological Society, and Ouyang Zhiyun, Chairman of the Ecological Society of China attended the opening ceremony. The conference coincided with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Society. In the beginning, participants watched the "Ecological Society of ChinaDocumentary for Forty Years". Then, Ouyang Zhiyun reviewed the major work of the Society over the past 40 years and the landmark work achievements and recognized scholars who have made great contributions to ecology. Several experts were invited to give special reports.

More than 10 teachers and students from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences attended the conference, showing the new achievements of Lanzhou University in the areas ofalpinehuman ecology, ecological evaluation of arid lands, drainage basin landscape ecology, and ecosystem services. Professor Dong Guanghui was invited to make a special report entitled "Interaction between people and ecological environment in the northern Tibetan Plateau in nearly 5000 years". The report discussed the relationship between people and the environment from the perspective of Human ecology and environmentalism. Dr. Gong Jie made academic reports entitled “Management of Watershed Adaptive Ecosystem Services Coupled with Landscape Ecological Risk” and “Ecosystem Services: Progress and Trends” in two sub-venues respectively. Fivepostgraduates participated in the "National Forum for Ecology Graduate Students" and gave oral presentations, showing the research progress of the College.

The conference set up a total of 46 special branch venues, 606 oral reports, and 193 academic posters, which is averitableacademic feast. After comprehensive selection, 73 postgraduates won the outstanding report awards and 36 postgraduates won the poster awards. An ecological popular science forum and an exhibition of ecological books were also held during the conference. More than 3,200 ecological science and technology workers from about 300 institutions from all over the country participated in the conference, displaying and exchanging important progress and latest research results in the field of ecology. This conference is another high-level academic conference in China's ecological field, which plays a huge role in promoting the construction of ecological disciplines, academic exchanges and cooperation, and training on young talents.
